We normally only see the best results when we look through the magazines or the web pages, but there has to be a beginning, when we all start from the basics, learning by our mistakes, so hopefully this site will help, encourage and also be a learning curve for us all.

Going back to those early years it seems a lifetime ago that I first peered through a telescope, at the time it just amazed me as to how complicated it all seemed .

How can anyone find anything up there, it just seemed a mass of stars !! Where does one start I thought, well I did after a long process of reading books and magazines it all came around to wanting to taking images just like you see in the paperbacks.

At first I started off using my trusty old SLR Camera, the Zenith, bought all the gear I needed and proceeded to try and take images, it was hard going, especially with the telescope I had, finding the objects was really hard, I used the star hopping method to locate my subject and endeavoured to finally take my images .

These at first were rubbish, focussing was so hard, but I did manage a few moon shots and a great one of the comet Hale Bopp which was around then, after a while I found myself losing interest, and it faded away, so I went back to just plain visual viewing .

After a couple of years I read in Astronomy Now about a real time camera!! see the planets and moon live on your tv screen , oh!! I'll have some of that I thought, well to cut a long story short, I purchased one, got the interest back, bought some new telescopes that made things a lot easier to take me to my subject and basically started from scratch again learning the art of astrophotography.

I since have purchased various cameras which are listed below, and which have taken me through the starting stages of imaging .

These will show how the technology and skill of course has moved on in great leaps and bounds, making the taking of such images a more relaxed and exciting prospect.

I have listed those sites that have given me a lot of advice on this subject .
Modern Astronomy web site, through Bernard Kapinski, who has helped in a big way, with the intro of The mintron and CCD cameras,and not forgetting the web cam ToUcam pro2, my saving grace, which gave me the get up and go in this subject.

Viewing here in Basildon is not exactly the best place to be, but looking due south and east gives me a lot to be satisfied with, especially with the MINTRON Video, it does open up a whole new world, so much so that looking through the eye piece has taken a back seat at present.
But it would be sad not to go back to basics now and then.

I have since purchased two CCD Cameras, the Atik ATK- 1C and now the Atik ATK 2HS, images have been taken with these cameras, which are shown in my links,
